After moving to one of the oldest parts in the center of Amsterdam, I thought it would be interesting to start a new project on a herstory from this district. Because I live near the Amsterdam Red Light District, I soon found Jurjentje Rauwerda (1812 – 1877) who -in the 19th century- had a luxurious and Amsterdams’ largest (but now forgotten) brothel ‘Maison Weinthal’. Jurjentje will be the protagonist in my new series ‘Madam’.
