My series ‘Maestro’ inspired by the life of Frieda Belinfante is taking shape. In this e-book you’ll find more background information about this interesting human being and the paintings I have been making so far. I am not trying to paint reality, it is just a translation of my imagination when I wander through her life.
So happy to announce my solo exhibition ‘MADAMADAM’ at Stadsmuseum Harderwijk from September 23 to January 9. During the corona period I exchanged my camera for the brush and made a series of paintings entitled ‘Never no’ about Caresse Crosby, the inventor of the bra and the series ‘As it goes’, inspired by my great-grandmother’s story. My husband has just left to report from Lviv in Ukraine as a journalist for the Dutch national radio. Although it is relatively quiet there at the moment, it is still quite exciting. I wanted to contribute to support the Ukrainians. One plus one equals two I thought and made this painting ‘Night before Lviv’. The full proceeds of this painting will be donated to Giro 555. Komend najaar organiseert Stadsmuseum Harderwijk de tentoonstelling MADAMADAM met schilderijen van de Amsterdamse kunstenaar Jitske Schols (geb. 1969, Rotterdam). Schols is gefascineerd door het verstrijken van de tijd. Deze belangstelling begon toen zij een boek las over de voormalige bewoners van het huis waarin ze zelf opgroeide. Het zette haar op het spoor van een aantal bijzondere vrouwen; niet alleen vrouwen die gewoond hadden in dat huis, maar ook andere vrouwen uit het recente verleden.
