I’m happy to share the success of the recent ‘Meeting Eunice’ event, where we gathered with 12 enthusiastic participants to explore the life and legacy of Eunice Newton Foote. As guests arrived at my studio, they were welcomed with coffee, tea or wine and an opportunity to mingle and get to know each other.
Getting to Know Eunice
The evening kicked off with an introduction to the artist and the theme of the evening. We delved into the life and achievements of Eunice Newton Foote, exploring her contributions to science, her advocacy for women’s rights, and the challenges she faced in a male-dominated field.
Artistic Approach
During the evening, I had the opportunity to share my artistic process with the attendees. I explained how I gather inspiration for my series ‘Footeprint’ through Zoom sessions with John Perlin from the Science Department of the University of California in Santa Barbara who wrote a scientific biography on Foote. As I demonstrated my work, including the series inspired by Foote’s life, I aimed to offer insights into the connection between art, history, and personal expression. It was a nice experience to witness the interest and engagement of the participants, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for storytelling through art.
Closing Reflections on the Evening
As the evening drew to a close, we reflected on the impact of Eunice Foote and the importance of honoring the stories of women like her. It was a pleasure to see engaging discussions and connections being made, fostering a sense of community among participants.
Stay Tuned
As we look ahead, I’m excited to continue the exploration of untold stories and hidden herstories through art and conversation. I extend my thanks to everyone who attended ‘MEETING Eunice’ and contributed to its success. Your passion and enthusiasm are truly appreciated, and I look forward to welcoming you to future events.
Thank you Frank Alsema for the photo’s and for documenting the project.
