HIDDEN GEM #03 [sold]

Description

These painted soapstones are the ‘Hidden Gems’ in the Nobody’s Dollhouse series, inspired by the life and times of Nellie Bly. They reference the women imprisoned in the Blackwell’s Island madhouse in the early twentieth century, seen, observed, but rarely heard.  Each stone is unique. They function as autonomous sculptural works, but also as bearers of a larger narrative about power, exclusion, and who is allowed to speak… and who is not.
