What a weekend! The opening of Changing States at ( s o o n ) gallery during Antwerp Art was a beautiful success. The works came into their own in the brutalist apartment setting. Its raw architecture, striking light, and panoramic views provided the perfect backdrop. A steady stream of visitors dropped by, many of whom stayed long, asked thoughtful questions, and showed real engagement with the story behind the series. Several pieces found new homes already, making it a strong and encouraging start.
Changing States revolves around the life and transformation of Elli Kruithof, an overlooked but pioneering Belgian designer who radically changed course in the 1960s, swapping a successful design career for theology and academia. Her story, marked by reinvention, silence, and subtle resistance, echoes in each painting.
The exhibition can still be visited throughout June by appointment, and we’ll celebrate with a closing weekend on 28 & 29 June. After that, the show remains available by appointment only throughout the summer, depending on the gallery’s holiday schedule.
