I’m excited to share that I’ve begun a new project centered on the fascinating life and work of Elli Kruithof, a pioneering designer from mid-20th century Flanders. Elli Kruithof, together with her partner Raymond Goovaerts often referred to as the ‘Ray & Charles Eames of Flanders’, was a visionary in interior design, furniture, and architecture. Despite her groundbreaking work, she remains a somewhat forgotten figure in the design world. This project aims to bring her story back to the forefront.
Through this series, I’ll dive deep into Kruithof’s creative journey, her collaboration with her then-husband Raymond Goovaerts, and the remarkable decision she made later in life to leave the design world behind and pursue a career in theology and philosophy. Her life is a story of transformation, creativity, and the quiet yet powerful impact of women in the design industry.
As I undertake this research and development phase, I invite you to join me in discovering her legacy. I’ll be sharing insights into my research process, the evolution of the project, and the stories behind the work I’ll be creating. It’s a journey that will culminate in a solo exhibition at ( s o o n ) gallery in Antwerp, set for May 2025, where the final works will be on display and exclusively available for purchase.
Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project unfolds!
