FLOATER FRAME
With a floater frame there is no glass plate in front of the photo. The photo is printed on Hahnemuhle paper on which a (non-visible) coating comes (a spray from Hahnemuhle itself) that protects against UV light. Hahnemuhle itself indicates that – if it is printed according to the strict conditions of digigraphy (Epson printer, Epson ink, prescribed papers from Epson itself or certain paper types from Hahnemuhle, calibration check) that certainly gives a certain guarantee (shelf life prints at least 70 – 100 years , I hear). My photo lab prints according to these strict principles and is a recognized supplier (‘Official Certified Digigraphy Dealer’). But the advice is not to hang it in full sun, for example.
The floater frame itself is made by hand. The photos are glued on a thin layer of aluminum (1mm) and then placed in the frame (see example photo). The paper type I use (Hahnemuhle Photo Rag) is a very matt variant, in which I find my work to be optimal. There are no white edges around it in the standard finish. Personally, I find a floater frame very nice to present my work in.
BAKLIJST
Bij een baklijst is er geen glazen plaat voor de foto. De foto wordt afgedrukt op Hahnemuhle papier waarover een (niet zichtbare) coating komt (een spray van Hahnemuhle zelf) die tegen UV-licht beschermt. Hahnemuhle zelf geeft dan aan dat -indien wordt geprint volgens de strikte voorwaarden van digigraphie (Epson printer, Epson inkt, voorgeschreven papiersoorten van Epson zelf of bepaalde papiersoorten van Hahnemuhle, kalibratiecontrole) dat zeker een bepaalde garantie geeft (houdbaarheid print tenminste 70 – 100 jaar, hoor ik). Mijn fotolab print volgens die strikte principes en is een erkende leverancier (‘Official Certified Digigraphie Dealer’). Maar het advies blijft om het werk niet in de volle zon hangen bijvoorbeeld.
De baklijst zelf wordt met de hand op maat gemaakt. De foto’s worden verlijmd op een dunne laag aluminium (1mm) en vervolgens in de baklijst geplaatst (zie voorbeeldfoto in bijlage). De papiersoort die ik gebruik (Hahnemuhle Photo Rag) is een zeer matte variant, waarin ik mijn werk optimaal vind uitkomen. Er zitten in de standaard afwerking geen witranden omheen. Zelf vind ik een baklijst heel erg mooi om werk in te presenteren.
REGULAR FRAME
Do you prefer a regular frame? That is also possible. My frame maker makes custom made frames by hand. In black there is a glossy and a matt edition. For a regular frame – in contrast to a floater frame – there is a glass plate in front of the artwork. This gives a different look at the artwork, but makes it less vulnerable. The work is delivered standard with special museum glass (UltraVue® UV70 Glass). When choosing for a frame, you can decide to add a passepartout. Keep in mind that in that case the size of the frame will increase in both length and width. There are additional costs for choosing a frame.
GEWONE LIJST
Wil je liever een gewone lijst? Dat kan ook. Ik werk samen met een lijstenmaker die ook hier weer handgemaakte lijsten op maat maakt. Voor de zwarte lijst kun je dan kiezen uit een matte of glansvariant. Voor een gewone lijst -in tegenstelling tot een baklijst- zit wel een glasplaat. Dat geeft uiteraard een andere uitstraling aan het artwork, maar maakt het minder kwetsbaar. Het werk wordt standaard met speciaal museumglas (UltraVue® UV70 Glass) geleverd. Bij een lijst kun je kiezen voor een foto met of zonder passepartout, bijvoorbeeld een passepartout van 5 cm breed. Houd er rekening mee dat in dat laatste geval de afmeting van de lijst zowel in de lengte als in de breedte 10 cm groter wordt. Kies je voor een lijst, dan zijn er additionele kosten aan verbonden.
